Magnitude SoliDrive™ Series is a “go-to” LED driver for contractors and integrators for a lot of good reasons. This Class 2 rated single-channel driver ranges from 30 watts to 96 watts and has a universal input voltage range from 120VAC to 277VAC, eliminating the need to stock both 120VAC and 277VAC drivers. Another contractor-favorite feature is the series works with 12, 24, 36 or 48VDC so it accommodates a wide variety of fixtures such as tape lighting, linear lights, floodlights and spotlights. Some readers may be thinking, “you manufacture these drivers; of course, you’re going to say it’s the best.” So, we decided to get the perspective from someone actually installing our Solidrive in the field and reached out to Rusty Henderson, owner of AVL and 2021 winner Lutron’s Excellence Award for Best HomeWorks project.

Based in the British Virgin Island, AVL installs audio/video and lighting systems in some of the most opulent homes, commercial buildings and hotels on the island. Rusty specs in Solidrive exclusively on certain projects because of its versatility, reliability and unbeatable dimming. “We found the dimming to be extremely predictable, smooth and stable at all output levels,” notes Henderson. “We use it as our preferred driver for all tape lighting applications.”

Precise and reliable dimming for tape lighting for under kitchen cabinets and in cove lighting is critical in Henderson’s work due to the high-end nature of AVL projects. “Any detectable flickering is simply not acceptable,” he notes. “I have to be 100 percent confident in the drivers I install.”  The SoliDrive is a dimmable LED driver down to 1% with 0-10V MLV and ELV. Henderson adds, “It’s also a great feature that the driver works with forward and reverse phase fixtures.” Henderson is referring to the SoliDrive Pro-V. This two-in-one driver is able to work in forward phase in MLV dimmers and reverse-phase in ELV dimmers. We know this because we constantly test for compatibility between our drivers and dimmers. In fact, no one out there tests more dimmers with their drivers than Magnitude.

Another feature Henderson appreciates is that the SoliDrive Series can handle fluctuating input power (dirty power). The driver allows for well-regulated, ultra-clean output voltage that is flicker-free and provides constant lumen quality lighting output.  “We used Solidrive on a project called EL20 and actually asked the architect to change their specification,” he concludes. “We knew this driver would work well on the Lutron Homeworks QS system and the tape light we specified.”

That kind of peace of mind is why Solidrive Series of LED lighting drivers continues to be one of our best sellers.
